Rita's Story
I graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing 1973, working in the critical care areas until attending Creighton University St. Joseph Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia. I later attended the University of Minnesota, receiving a BS in Nurse Anesthesia. And, much later, completed my MSN from the University of Phoenix.
I was married for 30 years, recently divorced. I have three grown children who reside in Omaha, NE. I affiliated with the US Navy Reserve in 1990, now after 19 years, rising to the rank of Commander. I was recalled to active duty in 2005 to Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida.I currently live in Fort Worth, TX, employed at Cook Children's Medical Center where I am an Anesthesia Manager. Being 60 has not slowed me down too much, just started my doctorate studies with Maryville University in St. Louis and will finish in Aug. 2015. I never, ever thought I would live in Texas, but I do like it here. It is a ten hour drive to Omaha to visit my grown kids.

et back to Sioux City once in awhile for weddings, funerals, etc. I guess I am the only one from my family who has strayed far from the Sioux City home nest.
The years at Central High are blur to me somehow. I felt like a nerd and couldn't wait to break free and begin my life. I did not come back for any of the reunions. Now, at this age of being a nearly 40 year alumnus, I feel nostalgic, thinking about some of the good things that my years at Central had to offer.
Do any of you remember French Class? I still take every opportunity I can to practice speaking French. I have never traveled to France but swear I will some day! I remember Mr. VanderWeil and Biology Class. I know many of you remember Mr. A fondly. I drive past the Castle on the Hill when I get home and feel a sense of pride. My ex-husband was a Heelan grad and profanely called it the "dump on the hump" each time he could. Turkey! Any way enough nostalgia. Hope you are all well and life has treated you kindly.
